FMIPA Udayana University Pharmacy Lecturers Receive Patent for Purple Sweet Potato Extract Granule Innovation

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Udayana University, has once again achieved a proud milestone through lecturers from the Pharmacy Study Program, who received a Simple Patent Certificate from the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia for their invention entitled “Process for Producing Purple Sweet Potato Extract Granules (Ipomoea batata (L.) var. Bali)”.

The award was presented during the Mass KUR Signing for 1,000 Creative Economy MSMEs, MSME Partnership, and Outstanding Entrepreneurship Fair, held on May 13, 2026, at the Widya Sabha Auditorium, Udayana University. The certificate presentation formed part of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) appreciation agenda, recognizing innovators whose works have strong potential for downstream application and broader utilization by society and industry.

The inventor team from the Pharmacy Study Program, FMIPA Udayana University, consists of Prof. Apt. Dr.rer.nat., Drs. I Made Agus Gelgel Wirasuta, M.Si.; Apt. Pande Made Nova Armita Sari, S.Farm., M.Si.; Apt. Ni Kadek Warditiani, S.Farm., M.Sc.; and Dr. Apt. I Gusti Ngurah Jemmy Anton Prasetia, S.Farm., M.Si.

The invention was granted Simple Patent Number IDS000009374, with a filing date of March 17, 2020, and an official grant date of December 30, 2024, providing legal protection for 10 years from the filing date in accordance with applicable patent regulations.

This innovation focuses on developing a process to produce granules from locally sourced Balinese purple sweet potato extract into a formulation that is more stable, practical, and has significant potential to be further developed into natural health-based products. The invention reflects FMIPA Udayana University’s strong commitment to generating research outcomes that are not only academically valuable but also highly relevant to community needs and innovation commercialization opportunities.
